NAMOKAR MANTRA
Namo Arihantanam: I bow down to Arihanta,
Namo Siddhanam: I bow down to Siddha,
Namo Ayariyanam: I bow down to Acharya,
Namo Uvajjhayanam: I bow down to Upadhyaya,
Namo Loe Savva-sahunam: I bow down to Sadhus.
Eso Panch Namokaro: These five bowings downs,
Savva-pavappanasano: Destroy all the sins,
Manglanam ch Savvesim: Amongst all that is auspicious,
Padhamam Havei Mangalam: This Navkar Mantra is the foremost.
Namokar Mantra
An ensemble of the most supreme and revered prayer of Jains; this opening performance bows in gratitude to the 5 Parmeshthis and seeks their blessings as Gaurav initiates his ascent on stage. Jains say their prayers in respect for 5 Parmeshthis – those souls who are the most supreme, auspicious and are very dear to their heart.
The first being the Arihants; Perfect souls that were with body, who have attained complete knowledge, imparted that entire knowledge to us and showed us the path of Real Self and Nirvana.
The second being Siddhas – All other souls that have attained salvation and attained infinite perception; knowledge; bliss and power; forever till eternity.
The third being Acharyas – the leader of the monks and nuns.
The fourth are the Upadhyas – the monks who teach us the knowledge of the path to salvation or Moksha
The fifth are the Sadhus – all the monks who have chosen the life of asceticism to seek perfect knowledge and gain salvation.
Namokar Mantra is a fundamental and auspicious prayer of the Jains. It has immense spiritual powers and Jains start nothing without reciting these verse. The hymn is considered immortal – has no beginning and will never lose its relevance and importance. This supreme verse (mantra) is considered to be the source for all other verses (mantras).
