Smt. Jamuna Mitcham
Jamuna Mitcham started her dance education in Bharata Natyam of the Tanjuvar family at the tender age of three under the guidance of Guru Chandrakant Hadkar, Guru Venu Gopal and Guru Smt. Jayashree V. Gopal. Simultaneously along with Bharata Natyam, at the age of 7, she began learning Kathak from Late Guru Chaubey Maharaj and later from Shri Atma Ram who is the disciple of late Guru Gopi Krishna in both Lucknow and Benaras Gharanas, respectively. Trained under the age old traditions and principle of ‘Guru-Shishya parampara’ i.e. teacher-disciple relation, she earned her “Visharad” in Bharata Natyam from Bharatiya Sangeet Samiti, Bombay (now Mumbai).
After settling in New York, Jamuna established SHRADDHANJALI INDIAN ARTS ACADEMY has been teaching Bharata Natyam, Kathak and various Indian Folk dances for the past 20 years with belief in sharing her passion for the art and entrusting our enriched culture and traditions to the next generation. Jamuna has trained several talented students and is one of the rare teachers who has performed students Bharata Natyam Arangetrams and Kathak Rang Praveshes. Her home productions include dance ballets such as Krishna Ashtami and Ganesha. She has also choreographed numerous dance dramas such as Bhaktamar, Mahasati Maina Sundari, Nemi-Rajul, etc. as well as various cultural and corporate events.
